Pulp’s Sheffield Pop-Up: The Meet-and-Greet Has One Strict Hour

Plan Pulp’s October 30 Hallamshire Hotel pop-up around Candida Doyle and Nick Banks’ strict one-hour visit, then the shop, quiz and karaoke.

Pulp’s Sheffield celebration on Friday, October 30 has a tighter schedule than “all-day pop-up” might suggest. Candida Doyle and Nick Banks are due at the Hallamshire Hotel from noon to 1pm. The label’s announcement is blunt about the limit: strictly one hour. If meeting them is the reason for your trip, the evening programme won’t do the same job.

Rough Trade Records announced the event on October 26 to mark Pulp’s induction into Sheffield’s Walk of Fame. The band’s official Instagram profile shares the announcement. Alongside the named members’ visit, the pub will host a shop, quiz, raffle, fancy-dress competition and karaoke. The published programme does not list a Pulp concert.

Noon is the appointment to protect

The meet-and-greet and shop both begin at 12:00. Only the shop continues until 20:00. The noon opening is shared; the closing times are six hours apart.

Imagine arriving at 13:30. You could head for the shop, but the hour set aside for Doyle and Banks would already be over. Allowing half an hour for a delayed journey would therefore make sense if you are choosing a train. We can’t say how long the queue will take; no queue arrangements appear in the announcement.

The shop has six hours left after the musicians’ scheduled appearance ends. A later visit could suit someone who wants to browse rather than meet them. Stock is a separate question, so don’t count on finding a particular edition at closing time. Our physical music guide looks at what collecting adds to listening.

Quiz first, karaoke later

At 17:30, the programme moves to a quiz, raffle and fancy-dress competition, running until 19:30. There’s then a half-hour gap before karaoke starts at 20:00. That ends at 22:30. The shop and quiz therefore overlap for two hours, while karaoke begins at the stated shop closing time.

If singing Pulp songs with other fans is the attraction, this is your part of the night. The announcement names Doyle and Banks only for the lunchtime meet-and-greet. It doesn’t advertise a band set alongside the karaoke.

Before travelling, check with the venue about admission, booking and age restrictions. None is explained in the label’s post, and a timetable alone won’t secure entry. Save the original announcement on your phone so you have the named activities and hours to hand. These are local Sheffield times.
